G&O Water in oil Monitor
Probably the most accurate and reliable monitoring of oil contamination!
The G&O Water in oil Monitor is a unique well-proven and well-tested water in oil monitoring system which provides operators of all type of Engines, Turbines, Thrusters, Azipods, Gears, Separators and Stabilizers with an early warning of water contamination of any oil system.
The main task is to prevent any break-down caused by water in the lubrication system and possible loss of any engine. Today's modern engine technology is using new metal compositions and is being exposed to heavy loads. This demands a constant higher need for maintaining a good lubricating quality.
Tested and recommeded by major Engine Makers
Detect water in your Lubricating Oil, Hydraulic Oil or Fuel Oil Systems before it is too late!

- Type approved by Bureau Veritas
- Supreme results in comparative tests
- Easy Operation & Installation
- No need for calibration
The working principle of the G&O SWM System is based on the difference in boiling points of water and oil. In short, a continuous flow of oil is by-passed through the Evaporator where the oil is heated sufficiently to evaporate any water and subsequently the condensed water is measured by passing through a sealed orifice calibrated to produce drops of an exactly fixed size. Each drop from the orifice causes an electrical impulse, which by way of the Relay/Electronic Box, is led to the ship´s Alarm & Monitoring System as well as shown locally (model 2 AB).
When a fixed set point is reached (decided by the operator or engine manufacturer) an alarm will be activated. The measured value is converted into a current signal, 0-20 or 4-20 mA representing e.g. 0-5,5% water content.
Recommended for installation on newbuildings and as an valuable safety add on on existing engines & various oil systems.
- Highly accurate
Measures from 0,03% and upwards. The settings are adjusted accordingly depending on type of oil measured. Set points can be set locally on the electronic box.
- Well proven and very reliable
No need for calibration once delivered. In comparative tests the G&O SWM has shown remarkable stability and reliable performance compared to capacitive sensor systems, which normally needs calibration ever so often.
- Type approved by Bureau Veritas
The system has a proven track record from more than 250 installations and is most likely the only type approved system on the market.
- Easy installation
The system is delivered ready for use, calibrated, mounted on a baseplate with shock absorbers ready for connection to the oil system.
- Tested with excellent results
The G&O SWM System has passed extensive tests with excellent results and is recommended by the biggest engine manufactures.
- Designed to meet customer specific requirements
Any type of oil and any type of oil system non-pressurized or pressurized.
The G&O Survey Water Monitor System can be delivered in a number of versions either as loose components with or without a pressostat. The most common sold model today is the upgraded model, " SWM no. 2 AB", where all components: Relay/Electronic Box, Evaporator, Pressostat are mounted on a baseplate with shock absorbers ready to installation on board.
- The Electronic Unit
Includes Relay box with "easy"terminals, Digital instrument with local read-out, alarm settings and digital/analog outputs.
- The Evaporator Unit
Includes the Heat Exchanger with acalan coated chamber. Voltage 120 or 230 Volt AC and an inlet pressure of 1-10 bar. Calibration of the Unit according to type of oil (Lub.Oil, Hyd.Oil or Heavy Fuel Oil).
- The Pressostat Unit
Is normally a Danfoss Type KPS 43 or similar.
In case of a SWM no. 2 AB for Hydraulic Oil System, also a Pump and Valve(s) are normally included. The basic system is designed for a free flow return of the measured oil. In case of a pressurized oil system a pump and return valve must be included.
Type approved by Bureau Veritas
